How to Play Climate Challenge

Climate Challenge is designed so you can start playing quickly—then learn more with every round.

Setup

  1. Shuffle the deck and deal the cards evenly to players (or place in a draw pile for group play).
  2. Each player keeps their cards face-down as a personal stack.

Taking turns

On your turn, you read the top card from your stack and choose one category:

  • Effectiveness
  • Affordability
  • Ease

Other players reveal their top card. Everyone compares the chosen category score. The highest score wins the round and collects all revealed cards.

Winning

Play continues until cards run out. The winner is the player with the most cards collected.

What you learn while playing

Climate Challenge makes climate education feel natural because the “climate lesson” is built into the decisions:

  • You’ll spot high-impact actions fast
  • You’ll notice which actions are easy to do daily
  • You’ll compare short-term cost vs long-term benefit
  • You’ll build confidence talking about solutions

Teacher / parent tip:
After each round, ask one question: “Would you do this action at home or school? Why?”
That one prompt turns gameplay into meaningful discussion.
